Care and maintenance of your sewer grinder pump

Startup and Break-in

Your pump should have been started by an authorized Environment One service technician.  A full startup report should have been supplied to you prior to moving in.  If for any reason you did not receive this report, please contact Delco Western at (801) 972-0900

The Environment One pump does not require a break-in period.  The pump units are factory tested and ready to run.

Care and use of your grinder pump

The Environment One grinder pump is capable of accepting and pumping a wide range of materials.  However, by limiting what goes down the drain, you can extend the life of your grinder pump.  Regulatory agencies advise that the following items should not be introduced into any sewer, either directly or through a kitchen waste disposal unit:

  • Glass
  • Metal
  • Gravel (including aquarium gravel)
  • Kitty Litter
  • Sand
  • Seafood shells
  • Coffee grounds
  • Egg shells
  • Plastic objects (toys, utensils, etc.)
  • Sanitary napkins or tampons
  • Diapers
  • Socks
  • Rags
  • Any cloth or clothes
  • Explosives
  • Flammable materials
  • Strong chemicals
  • Gasoline or diesel fuel
  • Lubricating oils
  • Grease or cooking oil
  • Paint
  • Stormwater runoff
  • Baby wipes
  • Cotton swabs
  • Syringes
  • Candy or other food wrappers
  • Cleaning sponges
  • Cigarette butts
  • Disposable toilet brushes

The Environment One grinder pump requires no periodic maintenance, adjustment, or lubrication.  By following the Care and Use instructions, your low pressure system will provide many years of safe, reliable life.

It is not asvisable to plant flowers or shrubs or place items such as fences, decorative pilings, fish ponds, etc. near the grinder pump as damage to the grinder pump, underground electrical or piping systems may occur.  The authorized service technician will not be responsible for any damage to landscaping or items placed within the easement while performing any maintenance functions.

Vacation or Periods of Disuse

If your home or building is left unoccupied for longer than seven days, purge the system by running clean water into the unit until the pump activates.  Immediately turn off the water and allow the grinder pump to run until it shuts off.  This process will cleanse the pump and leave it filled with a minimum of clean water.  Always leave the electrical power on.

Owner Initiated Shutdown

If for any reason you need to shut down your pump, desist from using any water or drainage in your home.  The alarm disconnect panel has one double pole circuit to supply power to the grinder pump.  To shut it down, simply flip the switch.  At no point will this need to be done to reset the pump.  This is to be done in emergencies only or on the advice of an authorized Environment One service technician.
